History
The Old ...
This one-time box car provided a cozy two room home for the Chollar family in 1924-25 when the town of Three Forks was booming and housing was at a premium. At the time it was located on Fourth Aveue. Later it was moved to the site of the present Federated Church annex and through the efforts of the Federated Women's Club, a library was started. When the building was moved to the present site, the sponsors were the Civic Club members and Mrs. Margaret Haigh was librarian for over ten years.
And Then ...
In 1963 the Tri-County Jaycees, under the leadership of Tom Owen, began a drive to secure a new library building
for Three Forks and due to the generosity of the local organizations, business men, and "just plain folks", over $1500
was donated toward the building fund.
Kanta Products, Three Forks Lumber, and Lane Construction contibuted materials, machinery and labor; Ideal Cement donated their product, and Peter Kiewit the gravel. Tom Fairhurst and his son did the wiring. The Town Council tripled the millage to provide better library services.
An Open House was held in the new building in June 1967 and since that time many improvements have been made including a rest room made possible by John Skornogoski; furniture and shelving were provided through a grant of $1,280.20 from the Montana State Library Commission; children's tables donated as a memorial; a frame of names of those for whom memorials have been given, was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gilmore who also gave $1500 purchase of books.

And Now ...

The current Three Forks Community Library building was purchased in 2001.
In June of that year a letter was sent to Mr. Phil Allison, who was in charge of
the physical facilities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City.
In the letter, the Library Board offered $100,000 for the purchase of the church building and the property.
The offer was accepted and work began on remodeling the building into a library.
The arduous task of moving the library items was begun on Saturday, May 4, 2002 with help from the Three Forks community.
The new library was open for business on Monday, May 13th.
